Liverpool are reportedly in the race to sign Argentine starlet Mateo Musacchio.
The 20-year-old Villarreal defender is being monitored by a number of clubs across Europe, and Liverpool are thought to have joined the race for the player.
Musacchio has risen to prominence in La Liga after a string of fine performances, with Liverpool, Juventus and AC Milan those thought to be leading the chase for the player.
Villarreal aren't thought to be keen on selling the player, and his long-term contract with the Yellow Submarine means the Spanish side don't have to part with their man cheaply.
However, talkSPORT claim that Spanish reports state the El Madrigal outfit would accept a 'generous' offer for the player's services.
Kenny Dalglish is thought to be keen on bringing a talented young defender to his Anfield squad as a potential long-term replacement for Jamie Carragher, and Musacchio would fit the bill for Liverpool. Damien Comolli, director of football strategy at Anfield, is also thought to have given the nod over a move for the player.
Club owners NESV have already shown that they are willing to back the manager in the transfer market after two big-money signings in January, and Liverpool could again look to spend big at the end of the season.
Davide Santon is another defender who has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past, and it appears likely that Dalglish will make a defender move in the summer.
Musacchio, a former River Plate starlet, would appear to be the cheaper option and the U20 international could prove to be a star of the future at Liverpool.
