Gent winger Yassine El Ghanassy is a summer transfer target for Manchester City the Daily Mail understands.
Having failed with a £4million deadline day bid in the January transfer window, the Citizens will step up their interest in the 20-year-old Belgian as Roberto Mancini looks to add to his attacking options at Eastlands.
El Ghanassy was seen as a short-term replacement for the injured Adam Johnson with a view to developing the promising player who is set to make his international debut against Finland tonight into a City star of the future.
The tricky winger has attracted attention from a number of quarters after flourishing last season in an unfancied Gent side having helped them finish runners-up in the league and leading them to Belgian Cup glory.
No wonder Gent are reluctant to let El Ghanassy go. They also reportedly turned down a similar offer from Spanish side Villareal who rivalled Manchester City for the player’s signature in January but have admitted defeat and will be willing to listen to offers in the summer.
Manchester City officials deny that a fee has already been agreed despite comments from El Ghanassy which contradict that. Speaking about the Citizens January enquiry he said, “I'm not disappointed it didn't get pushed through.
“I think there is now an agreement with Manchester City for me to move in the summer. We will have to see if that works out.”
City boss Roberto Mancini is on the lookout for up and coming talent to add to his multi-million-pound squad at Eastlands, and wants to strengthen in an attempt to ascertain an assault on the Barclays Premier League title next season.
