Liverpool midfielder target Gokhan Inler is also wanted by Manchester City.

The Swiss international was heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the summer, with Roy Hodgson thought to be keen on bringing the player to Liverpool.

Despite his departure and the arrival of Kenny Dalglish, the Merseysiders were still thought to be keen on bringing the player to Liverpool in January.

"Away in January? Never say never. Liverpool are also interested," agent Dino Lamberti told Radio Quinta Rete in September. He confirmed that the Reds had taken an interest in the Udinese player since Rafa Benitez was in charge of the club.

Having failed to complete a deal for the player, Manchester City are now thought to be interested in the player, according to Swiss sources.

Roberto Mancini has identified the Serie 'A' star as someone who could provide reinforcement in the central midfield position at Eastlands, with good passing and tackling attributes.

It is thought that Liverpool or City would have to pay in the region of €13 million, and his eye for goal makes him an attractive offer to a number of sides across Europe.
