Crewe defender David Artell is a major doubt for the visit of Gillingham.

The centre-half suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that kept him out for a fortnight against Rotherham last weekend. Academy product Adam Dugdale is on stand-by to fill in once again.

Shaun Miller missed the trip to south Yorkshire with the thigh strain that forced him off at Northampton. The striker is rated at 50/50 to return at the weekend.

Fellow forward Clayton Donaldson completes a three-match ban.

January Manager of the Month Dario Gradi has options should he wish to make changes. Danny Blanchett, Joel Grant, Nick Powell and Antoni Sarcevic are available for recalls.

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler is likely to be without defender Matt Lawrence.

The right-back limped out of the 3-1 midweek win over Rotherham after 25 minutes with a thigh/groin problem and is almost certain to miss out against the Railwaymen.

Winger Andy Barcham will miss out again after receiving another injection to treat his ankle injury, while defender Josh Gowling (knock) and midfielder Joe Martin (cheekbone) also miss out.

However, defenders Tony Sinclair, Garry Richards and Simon King will be involved despite all suffering from ankle problems.

Sinclair returns to the matchday squad hoping for his first appearance since November 23, while Richards retains his place despite undergoing an injection.

King is also fine to retain his place despite playing 65 minutes on his return from almost 19 months on the sidelines against the Millers.
