Orion Starr is looking for a change of career, but will not succeed as an elite level fighter if her performance on Friday evening is an example of what is to come. The 25-year-old was stopped in the first round of her professional debut against Elise Reed.Appearing at Bellator 231 under her real name Rebecca Bryggman, the New Yorker had two amateur MMA fights prior to this, which she won. However, she learned that life as a pro is harder as she was brutalised by Reed on Friday night.A fight that was viewed as an opportunity to get some experience under her belt, Reed, also making her pro debut, turned it into a disaster with just 12 seconds left of round one.

Holding her own for the opening exchanges, Bryggman seemed comfortable in the Octagon. Although, she tired in the latter stages and Reed pounced, pinning her opponent to the cage before landing massive strikes to stop the bout.

The referee spared Bryggman the humiliation of being knocked out, stepping in to prevent the inevitable.

Taking to Instagram before the fight, Bryggman claimed: ”I’m so happy and excited. I made my dreams a reality and keep striving forward up the ladder. Nothing will stop me…nothing!

“Tonight, I sacrifice her soul. Can’t wait to fight I’ve worked long and hard for this pro debut and opportunity on @bellatormma.”

This setback doesn’t mean an end to her career, but she may need to learn more. Her opponent had already made five more appearances in the amateurs.

It remains to be seen whether this enthusiasm for the sport will continue following her recent experience.

Also appearing on the card were two MMA veterans and former UFC stars Frank Mir and Roy Nelson, who squared off in a heavyweight contest.

Forty-year-old Mir won by unanimous decision in a rematch that took place eight years after the first bout.
