Manchester United have been urged to sign reported Liverpool target Mathieu Valbuena.
The 26-year-old Marseille midfielder has been linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League for a number of months and, according to French newspaper La Provence, United are one of his potential suitors.
TalkSPORT claims that United are ready to follow the advice of Old Trafford legend Eric Cantona and make a summer move for the France international, who has also previously been targeted by Liverpool.
Valbeuna is reportedly seen by United as a potential successor to Paul Scholes as the end of his Old Trafford career draws closer.
The 36-year-old has enjoyed a vintage season thus far and is expected to be offered a contract extension in the summer to keep him with United for another year, and the search is on to unearth a worthy replacement.
United, however, could be set to battle with Liverpool for the signature of Valbuena with the Merseyside club tipped to reignite their interest.
Liverpool had been monitoring the Frenchman under the previous Anfield regime - as reported by imscouting.com - and, although their interest has since cooled, director of football strategy Damien Comolli is thought to have received positive reports on Valbuena from his contacts in France.
A creative midfielder, Valbuena - who scored against England at Wembley in November - is the type of technical player Liverpool are keen to add to their ranks - demonstrated by their ultimately fruitless pursuit of Blackpool's Charlie Adam.
Like Adam, Valbuena is known to be interested in joining Liverpool and has previously stated his intention to one day play in England.
He said: “My dream is to play in the Premier League, by far the best league in the world. England is a nation where football was invented, and it shows."
