Pat Baldwin and Steven Gillespie face late fitness checks ahead of Colchester's home game against Walsall.

Defender Baldwin was ruled out of Tuesday night's 2-0 defeat at Notts County with an Achilles problem and striker Gillespie was sidelined due to a minor hamstring injury.

Winger Ashley Vincent also missed out through illness but has resumed training and should be involved.

Defensive pair Magnus Okuonghae and Brian Wilson are close to returning from their lengthy spells out with ankle injuries, although they will probably need a reserve game under their belts.

Kem Izzet is pushing for a recall after dropping to the bench in midweek, while fellow midfielder John-Joe O'Toole remains a long-term absentee with a cruciate injury.

Walsall are hopeful of having forward Jason Price available.

The on-loan Carlisle man missed Tuesday`s deserved 1-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge with a sore Achilles but has now returned to training and manager Dean Smith will see how he responds.

Winger Julian Gray took a knock to an ankle in midweek but ran it off and will be fine for Saturday.

New boy Tom Williams is still waiting for his debut having been an unused substitute against the Daggers following his switch earlier this week.

Striker Darren Byfield (knee) is looking to return to full training next week.

Victory for Walsall at the Weston Homes Community Stadium could take them out of the relegation zone for first time since early October.
