Bury striker Ryan Lowe scored for the sixth game running to earn a valuable 1-1 draw against fellow promotion chasers Gillingham.

The Gills, who extended their unbeaten run to six matches, took the lead through Curtis Weston's 25th minute effort but were pegged back by Lowe's 21st goal of the season.

Lenell John-Lewis was the first to go close for the visitors when he blazed over from ten yards while Danny Jackman's 20th-minute free-kick whistled just wide for the hosts.

But Gillingham did capitalise on a good spell of pressure when Weston cut in from the left and fired low past Cameron Belford from 20 yards.

They should have been two up moments later when leading scorer Cody McDonald outmuscled Tom Lees but could only shoot wide from close range.

On 68 minutes Belford did well to deny Gillingham substitute Andy Barcham when through on goal and that save would prove crucial.

Just three minutes later John-Lewis played in Lowe to clinically finish past Alan Julian and Bury held as McDonald missed a late chance for a Gills winner.
