Liverpool plot Spaniard swoop for €8m 'top' target

Liverpool are being linked with an €8 million summer swoop for Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique.

The Spanish full back has been in excellent Barclays Premier League form this season, leading to speculation over a move at the end of the season. Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is reportedly leading the chase.

Goal.com claims the Merseysiders have made the 25-year-old their top target as the club look to solve the left back problem at Anfield, and it's thought that a fee in the region of €8 million will be enough to bring the player to Liverpool

AC Milan and Aston Villa are also thought to be keen on the player, who joined the Toon from Villarreal in a £6.3 million move away from La Liga back in the summer of 2007.

The player recently admitted he was flattered with the interest in his services from Liverpool and other clubs, and has hinted that a move could be possible in the future.

“I love the fans here and suffered with them when we were relegated. But we have to be realistic. Newcastle aren't performing well,” said the player last week, according to Goal.

“I want to win things. I'm OK at Newcastle but I aspire to more."

Liverpool legend Dalglish has hinted that he will look to revamp the Reds in the summer, and owners NESV have already shown that they are willing to back the manager financially in the transfer market.

With Paul Konchesky failing to impress during his first six months at the club and Glen Johnson currently filling in at the left back position, it appears that Liverpool have earmarked the player as a resolution to a problem position at the club.
