John Sheridan's Chesterfield bounced back in style from their shock weekend defeat to Morecambe to blast four goals past their closest npower League Two title rivals Wycombe at the b2net Stadium.

Dean Smalley, Danny Whitaker, Jack Lester and Craig Davies were all on target while the visitors hit a late consolation through Jon-Paul Pittman as the Spireites moved nine points clear at the top.

Wycombe's crushing loss will leave them looking anxiously over their shoulders with Bury making the biggest move of the night with a 3-0 away win at fellow promotion contenders Shrewsbury.

Goals from Andy Bishop, Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher helped Bury jump from fifth to third, above both the Shrews and Rotherham - who scrambled late to pick up a point at Torquay.

The Millers had started the night in the final automatic promotion place but looked out of sorts at Plainmoor.

They trailed through Eunan O'Kane's early goal and saw top scorer Adam Le Fondre miss a penalty just before the hour - but Ryan Taylor earned them a point with a 73rd-minute goal.

Gillingham clung onto the final play-off berth thanks to an 82nd minute John Nutter free-kick which earned a 1-1 draw at Aldershot, who took the lead five minutes earlier through Danny Hylton.

Oxford failed to move into the top seven after a surprise 3-1 home loss to Lincoln.

Sad Stockport remain rooted to the bottom despite putting up a fight at Cheltenham. Aaron Brown equalised Jake Thomson's early strike for the home side, but Wesley Thomas completed a 2-1 win for the Robins in the 67th minute.

Burton jumped out of the relegation zone after clinging on for a fine 3-2 win at Northampton. The Brewers were 3-0 up inside the first 40 minutes before goals from John Johnson and Andrew Holt made it a nervous final few minutes.
