Cardiff City and Derby County have both signed goalkeepers on loan until the end of the season to help sure up their defences for the late season run-in.
Derby’s Bywater is the second keeper to join Cardiff in as many days, after Jason Brown signed on loan from Blackburn Rovers in the wake of injuries to Tom Heaton and David Marshall.
Meanwhile, their Npower Championship rivals, Derby, have recruited the services of Matt Duke from Stoke City.
The 33-year-old will provide cover for new recruit Frank Fielding, who linked-up with The Rams last week and made his debut in Derby’s defeat to Doncaster Rovers.
On Duke’s signing, Derby manager Nigel Clough told the club’s official website: “We know Matt well; he has good experience both in the Championship and Premier League, and he is ideal for us to work alongside.”
On Bywater’s move to Cardiff, Clough said: "This deal makes sense for us and Stephen, and we have protected ourselves with the 24-hour recall clause.
"Frank has the shirt at the moment and it's better for Stephen to go and play games, rather than sit on our bench.”
