Highly rated PSV Eindhoven winger Jeremain Lens has emerged as a summer transfer target for Newcastle United reports the Daily Mirror.
The 23-year-old Dutch international has been in fine form in the Eredivisie this season, with his impressive performances catching the attention of a number of Barclays Premier League clubs.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew is looking to add to his attacking options at St James’ Park and Newcastle look to be the front-runners for the player’s signature when the transfer window reopens in June.
Lens almost moved to the North East last summer, but after English interest failed to translate into a firm offer, he instead opted for a switch from AZ Alkmaar to league rivals PSV.
With eight goals in 26 first team appearances in his first season there, Lens has been regarded as on overriding success, helping his new side to the top of the domestic league where they currently stand three points clear at the top of the table.
After the £35million sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool on January transfer deadline day, Newcastle fans will be eagerly anticipating some summer transfer activity as Magpies owner Mike Ashley promised to reinvest the money inherited on improving the Newcastle first-team squad.
With lightening pace and an eye for goal, Lens would seemingly fit into the Toon blueprint that has already attracted stars such as Hatem Ben Arfa and Cheik Tiote to St James’ Park.
And with PSV in severe financial trouble they are rumoured in the Dutch media to be prepared to listen to offers for any of their current playing staff, making a Newcastle bid increasingly likely at the end of the season.
