Manchester United just keep on falling and it won't be long until they hit rock bottom.Wednesday night's 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley seems to have reached a boiling point. The fans inside Old Trafford turned toxic. Most left before the 85-minute and those that stayed were booing the team off the pitch at full-time. It's a far cry from what we saw when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer first took over 13 months ago and the success under Sir Alex Ferguson seems a lifetime ago. United supporters are getting sick - not just of the manager - but of those higher than him.

Even club legend Rio Ferdinand made a passionate statement at full-time, hitting out at the board for poor recruitment and embarrassing work over the last seven years.

"£600m spent on a squad. On what? I don't see it out there," Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

"The recruitment, what has been bought? There's nothing down there that suggests to me it's laying down the foundations for the future.

"I'm sitting up here, if I'm honest, I'm embarrassed. It's embarrassing to be here, the way that the team is. Not just how the team performed but what's coming next. I don't see a pathway.

"I don't see targets being set. I don't see it. Put today's result to one side, I'm talking recruitment and building the squad.

"Money has been spent willy-nilly the last seven years. What's to show for it here? I don't see what's there. You can't defend this."

Ferdinand's most damning assessment came through suggesting that young football fans won't want to support United anymore.

"Young kids in schools around the country aren't going to be wearing Man United shirts. They're not going to want to come here and support United based on what you're seeing out there.

"It's not going to happen. Fans are walking out after 84 minutes. It's an embarrassment. People at the top need to look and see this and actually make changes.

"Put a plan in place that makes people sit there and say 'I can actually see where we're going now.' I don't see it."

Shortly after, Ferdinand added even more to his argument about United's shoddy recruitment:

It's fair to say the United legend has hit the nail on the head. It's not often we see TV pundits speak so passionately about a club, but Rio puts his point across brilliantly.

He's using his platform to say exactly what most United fans are thinking and should be respected for that. Right now, the club is heading in a worrying direction and it's clear for all to see.
