Cotterill pleads with star striker to reject Blackpool move

Published Add your comment

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill is urging striker David Nugent to reject a move to Blackpool and stay at Fratton Park.

The 25-year-old is out of contract in the summer and had began talks with other clubs in the hope of securing a move away from the south-coast side.

With 11 goals this season, Nugent is Pompey's top scorer, and Cotterill is keen to keep hold of his man.

"David might stay here. If he does stay, great. If he doesn’t, it will be a disappointment.

"But we would have to move on from that.

"We’ve moved on from other players that have left.

"We have already seen two teams that have left here since I’ve been here, so one other player may not hurt that much.

"But, obviously, everyone at the club would like him to stay."

The England international joined Portsmouth from Preston North End in 2007.
