Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is confident there is more to come from recent arrivals Sulley Muntari and Stephane Sessegnon as they get to grips with life in the Barclays Premier League.

Despite both men impressing during their first few weeks on Wearside, neither has yet ended up on the winning side, something Bruce is hoping they can help remedy during the weeks ahead.

Bruce said: "We can all see they are very, very good players. They are disappointed because they have been on the losing team, but they are both fantastic players."

Muntari, who is back in English football after a season at Portsmouth, has started the last four games following his loan move from Inter Milan, while former Paris St Germain midfielder Sessegnon has played the last five.

Bruce added: "They are both technically very, very good. You don't play for clubs like Paris St Germain and Inter Milan unless you are a very, very good player and we are delighted to have them here.

"They can only get better. They are enjoying the challenges of the Premier League and the rigours of it and let's hope they keep improving."

Benin international Sessegnon, 26, made his debut in the 4-2 home defeat to Chelsea on February 1, just three days after completing his £6million switch from PSG, while Ghana's Muntari, also 26, joined him in the team for the 3-2 loss at Stoke four days later.

Defeats by Tottenham and Everton followed, but the Black Cats stopped the rot with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Arsenal last time out and, refreshed after a two-week break, will look to return to winning ways when Liverpool head for the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
