In an apparent U-turn after selling Gary Cahill 3 years ago, Aston Villa is reportedly planning to re sign the England international centre back.
Villa fans were left frustrated after their old compatriot scored two goals against them with Bolton to win 3-2 last weekend.
Cahill was sold to Bolton in 2008 for around £5 million, and has been linked to Arsenal and Tottenham on a few occasions since. According to reports, Bolton manager Owen Coyle has put an asking price of £20 million over Cahill’s head, which will no doubt be frustrating for Villa if they decide to buy him back.
While Cahill had trouble getting time on the pitch with Villa, at Bolton he improved immensely, earning his first England cap whilst at the club.
Villa are reportedly planning on offering a swap deal for the 25 year old, and are planning to offload players such as Stephen Warnock, Stiliyan Petrov and even Richard Dunne.
With competition from Spurs and Arsenal for the star’s signature, Villa will be hoping that Cahill’s connection to the club’s past will get them over the line with the deal.
