Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg are keen to hijack Blackburn Rovers' £15 million move for Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.
The Danish forward has fallen down the pecking order at the Gunners since the signing of Marouane Chamakh.
Meanwhile, Rovers are keen bring in a marque signing to help see in a new era at Ewood Park, under new owner Venky's.
Previous moves for Ronaldinho, David Beckham and Kaka have fallen through, and the 23-year-old Danish international is the latest player to seemingly reject Blackburn's advances, and is now being courted by Bundesliga duo Dortmund and Hamburg.
Whereas Bendtner would be giving up Champions League football at The Emirates Stadium to join Rovers, runaway league leaders Dortmund would provide a return to Europe's premier club competition.
By contrast, Hamburg are off the pace in the race to qualify for Europe with six points separating them from FSV Mainz who hold the final Europa League place.
Bendtner has made just 11 appearances for the Gunners in the Barclays Premier League this season and appears close to ending his six year relationship with the club this summer.
