Arsenal are being linked with a £25 million move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
The 23-year-old has been propelled into the first team at the Bernabeu this season after Gonzalo Higuian was ruled out for most of the season with a back injury.
Benzema has scored 14 goals in his last 16 games in the absence of the Argentine striker, form that has attracted the attention of Arsene Wenger who is reportedly ready to invest.
However, the only stumbling block over the transfer of the French international may be surround the return to fitness of Higuain, and whether boss Jose Mourinho is planning to make a big money signing to attempt to get closer to La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Since Wenger took over in 1997, the Gunners squad has been awash with the best of French talent, and Benzema pace and eye for goal will lead to comparisons with Arsenal's record goalscorer, Thierry Henry.
Even if the North Londoners miss out on the forward, Wenger is in dire need for more attacking options with injury problems affecting all of his front line forward, with Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner all spending time on the sidelines this season.
