Graeme Souness has suggested Chelsea could be interested in a move for David de Gea this summer.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has struggled at Old Trafford this season and is in danger of losing his spot to Dean Henderson.

Chelsea have similar problems of their own with Frank Lampard clearly not trusting club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks.

He hasn't played since January 21, with backup Willy Caballero being preferred for the last six games instead.

Speculation suggests the Blues could look to replace Kepa over the summer and Souness believes De Gea could be an option.

"I’m a big fan of Dean Henderson who is impressing at Sheffield United,” the Sky Sports said, per The Mirror.

"I remember he made a mistake against Liverpool earlier in the season and his manager wasn’t kind to him but he appears to have learnt from that. He appears to have a big personality.

"De Gea I would imagine would be one of the best-paid players at United. Could you have him sitting on the bench on whatever he’s earning and not causing problems?

"Would there be takers for him? You look at the situation at Chelsea and they might make a nibble for him.

"It’s a big decision for Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] to make and that’s what he’s paid for. It’s a big, big call."

Souness' claim is a big one, but stranger things have happened.

De Gea has fallen out of favour with some Man United fans, especially those voicing their opinions on social media, who now want to see Henderson between the sticks next season.

As the Sky Sports pundit says, De Gea will not be happy just sitting on the bench and would surely look for a move if he loses his place.

With Kepa's future more than uncertain, Chelsea could sell him on and sign Spain's other top goalkeeper ahead of next season.
