Mixu Paatelainen described as "total and utter nonsense" suggestions that he is freezing Cameron Bell out because the goalkeeper has not yet agreed a new contract with Kilmarnock.
The 24-year-old Scotland cap returned from injury for Sunday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Rangers at Ibrox but was left out of of the squad while Finn Anssi Jaakkola kept his place with Welshman Kyle Letheren on the bench. Reports claimed Bell, whose current deal expires in the summer, was being frozen out by Paatelainen but that was strongly refuted by the Killie boss.
"Total and utter nonsense," said Paatelainen. "When I chose a team to play, contracts don't come in to it at all."
"Somebody said I had confirmed that I had frozen out Cammy Bell because he hasn't signed a new contract and that is total and utter nonsense.
"In my mind the best team plays, the team that gives us the best chance to win the match.
"Cammy was injured and Anssi Jaakkola came and did fantastically well and kept two clean sheets.
"So I don't just look at one player in the squad, I look at everybody.
"I want to be fair and I made the decision that Anssi played, as simple as that.
"Not because of Cammy's contract situation, not because of Anssi's situation or anybody's situation."
