Terry pleased with England armband

Carlo Ancelotti revealed John Terry was "happy" after being reinstated as England captain just over a year after being stripped of the honour.

Chelsea boss Ancelotti was also pleased his skipper had been awarded the armband ahead of his country's European Championship qualifier in Wales on Saturday.

Ancelotti said: "I think John is happy with this. I think he will be, so I am very happy. A man is a leader not because he has the armband on his arm. He's a leader because he's a professional and he's at the top, like John Terry is."

England manager Fabio Capello took the captaincy from Terry last February following allegations the defender had an affair with the ex-girlfriend of then international team-mate Wayne Bridge, but with Terry's successor as skipper Rio Ferdinand persistently injured, Capello has taken the controversial decision to reinstate the Chelsea star.

Ancelotti confirmed Terry would be fit to lead England out at the Millennium Stadium despite going down in agony during the second half of Chelsea's Barclays Premier League win over Manchester City.

City assistant manager David Platt, a former England captain himself, refused to be drawn on Capello's decision.

"I'm a former England captain, not a former England manager," Platt said. "Fabio Capello will do what he chooses to do.

"(Terry) is a magnificent captain and he's done it for Chelsea as he's done for England."
