Arsenal’s star wingback Gael Clichy is stalling talks with Arsenal because of a possible move to Barcelona, according to The Daily Mail.
While Clichy has expressed his desire to wait until the summer to discuss an extension in his contract, manager Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are reportedly desperate to sort the matter out now.
The Daily Mail has named Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre as a possible replacement for the French man should he decide to leave the London outfit. Clichy is contracted until summer 2012, meaning that if he doesn’t sign a new contract soon it will be in Wenger’s best interests to sell the star this summer and make money from the deal.
Speculation about Clichy’s place in next season’s Arsenal squad increased earlier this month when the 25 year old told L’Equipe, “Will I prolong my contract? I don’t know and I don’t think about it.
“The season is still long. I will have time to think about it in the summer.”
After the comments, Wenger reportedly moved to sort a new contract out as soon as possible, however Clichy, who has starred for Arsenal this season, has kept to his word thus far about waiting until summer to talk deals.
