West Ham United striker Carlton Cole has hailed the ‘amazing spirit’ coursing through the club, and says that the positive mentality will stand them in good stead in their battle for Barclays Premier League survival.
Last weekend’s hard-fought point against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur secured the Hammers fourth game without defeat which has lifted Avram Grant’s side out of the relegation zone on goal difference.
In Cole’s eyes, a 0-0 draw in Spurs’ own back yard was a very positive result for the Irons, and provided another example of how tight-knit the squad has become as they ground out another valuable point.
"We've got great players, and there is an amazing spirit," he said.
"That's what drove us at Tottenham to try and get a result. It all adds up at the end of the day and I'm certainly proud of the lads."
Cole went on to say that their recent run of form has created a real buzz around the club at every level of the training set-up.
"Everybody out there from the youth team that trains with us sometimes, to the reserves, to the first team, to the coaches.
"Everyone has their own input and everyone that works around the ground is pulling in the same direction.
"That’s what creates the great atmosphere at the club."
Going into the international break, the West Ham squad will take a well earned rest in preparation for their next league encounter which sees them host title-challengers Manchester United at Upton Park on 2 April.
With eight games left to play, the Hammers and Cole will be hoping that the fighting spirit will be enough to retain their top-flight status as they bid to return to Barclays Premier League action next season.
