WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has requested to Vince McMahon if he can wrestle in a Boneyard Match at next year’s WrestleMania.
The hardcore legend made this global appeal via Twitter following a show stealing match at WrestleMania 36 between The Undertaker and AJ Styles in their Boneyard fight on Saturday.
Following this match, many fans believe this would be an ideal setting for Foley to return without pushing his body too much and would certainly suit his hardcore persona.
Equally, an encounter with The Undertaker in this type of match would be ideally suited for both and the pair have previously put on memorable matches.
For instance, 1998’s brutal battle inside Hell in a Cell where Foley was knocked unconscious immediately springs to mind.
Foley, who retired from all forms of wrestling in 2012, said on Twitter: “Mr McMahon can I please be in next year’s Boneyard match at WrestleMania?”
WrestleMania 36 as an event itself was widely criticised for going ahead following the global pandemic of COVID-19, that forced most of the world to come to a halt, however, one of the main events between ‘The Deadman’ and ‘The Phenomenal One’ was viewed by many as a modern day classic.
The match effectively culminated in the former seven-time world champion Chokeslamming Styles off the roof and through a wooden panel.
Subsequently, Taker beat him into the grave and rode off on his trademark motorcycle with his logo blazed on the ruined house.
What this match clearly demonstrated is that The Undertaker, who has at times looked on his last legs in the last two years, was certainly back to his epic best, and if he can effectively wrestle a man who is 20 years younger in this type of match, there is certainly no reason why someone like Foley could not do the same.
