Scotland manager Craig Levein has drafted Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith into his squad for the friendly against Brazil.

The forward was born in Watford but qualifies for the Scots through his Scottish grandmother.

Mackail-Smith - who has scored 27 goals so far this season - will play for his club on Friday night before joining the Scotland squad in London.

Levein had earlier revealed he could draft in reinforcements after the withdrawal of Steven Naismith left him short of forward options.

Uncapped Mackail-Smith learned the news of his call-up following confirmation of his eligibility through his Edinburgh-born grandmother Margaret.

He said: "I am absolutely over the moon and my gran will be the proudest gran in the world. She has followed my career since childhood and always hoped - like I did - that I would one day be able to play for Scotland.

"I knew the Scotland scout [Michael Oliver] had been watching me this past year and I am delighted it has come to fruition. I certainly never imagined that I would be playing against Brazil on Sunday, the plan was to kick back on the sofa and watch it on TV.

"I have had a really good season and this just caps it off for me. Hopefully I will get a chance to show the Scotland fans what I am capable of."

Levein said: "Craig is a player Michael has watched for some time and he has been highly recommended to us by Darren Ferguson.

"He has had a fantastic season and I am confident he will be able to translate his domestic form into the international arena."
