Highly rated Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi has emerged as a summer transfer target for Juventus reports sport.co.uk.
The 24-year-old Italian international is widely regarded as one of the hottest properties in La Liga after a series of scintillating performances, and is currently enjoying his best season to date for the Yellow Submarine.
With 15 goals to his name already this term, Rossi has attracted the attention of a number of potential suitors.
The former Manchester United star was linked with a return to England when he became the subject of an alleged January transfer bid from Tottenham Hotspur, only for the player’s representatives to reject advances from White Hart Lane.
Rossi was sold by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2004 after being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, but has since shown he has the ability to make it at the very top.
He has received international recognition by Italy and has featured in both of Europe’s elite competitions for his current club Villarreal.
Rossi's potential was never in doubt however, reflected by the fact that part of the deal that saw him complete a move to Spain included a first option buy-back clause in his contract, should the Red Devils wish to re-sign him in the future.
The pre-negotiated arrangement now looks a smart piece of business as Manchester United contemplate capitalising on the initiative shown by Ferguson almost seven years ago.
In a recent interview with Tuttosport Rossi’s agent Federico Pastorello confirmed, "Juve have sounded out the ground, as is usual for a big club in this period.
"There was an offer, more precisely for a loan with an option to buy and Villarreal rejected it. But since then several things have happened.
"It seems normal that an ambitious project like Juventus' marries well with Rossi’s identikit. He is obviously a youngster of great talent with a winning mentality."
Despite Juve's interest, the only way a deal can be orchestrated is after it has been given the green-light by Manchester United, who themselves may consider adding another attacking option to their ranks by bringing Rossi back to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
