Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is not at all surprised by the swift impact David Luiz has made since his move to Chelsea.
Luiz signed for the Blues from Benfica for £23 million in January and has quickly won over the Stamford Bridge faithful with his curly hair and tough-tackling.
The Brazilian defender has also weighed in with important goals against Manchester United and Manchester City to further establish himself as a firm favourite with Blues fans, who have enthusiastically taken to the 23-year-old.
Lucas, however, knew his compatriot would settle straight away in the Barclays Premier League and is pleased to see his friend has become an instant hit.
"I've known David since I was maybe 19. We used to play for the Under-20s together," Lucas said. "I am not surprised [with his impact].
"I am really, really happy with the way he has arrived, because I know how difficult it is to adapt in the Premier League.
"He is already scoring a lot of goals and maybe people were not expecting this. And they have been important goals as well so I am happy with the way he is playing.
"Ramires is also doing really well and we are happy because I know how difficult it is for a Brazilian player to come to the Premier League and do well.
"Hopefully more Brazilians will come and help teams in the Premier League."
