Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken to Inter Milan about possibly signing Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to Inter’s club president.
“The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real,” Massimo Moratti told reporters.
But the Italian oil tycoon is planning to fight to keep Sneijder and will no doubt ask for a high buy out fee for the star, who has 75 caps for the Netherlands.
“I didn’t look into it [the interest from United]. My only interest is seeing Sneijder play here for many more years to come,” Moratti said.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly keen on bringing Sneijder to Manchester United to replace Paul Scholes, who looks set to retire over the next year.
Sneijder has been reported by the Daily Mirror as being worth in excess of £40 million, but with sources saying Manchester United have in excess of £150 million to spend in the summer, Ferguson will no doubt have the money in his kitty to secure the Inter star.
