Poyet: Let's seal promotion

Brighton manager Gus Poyet called for his side to seal promotion to the Championship as soon as possible after seeing them record an eighth straight win at Dagenham.

The Seagulls moved 13 points clear at the top of League One after Craig Noone crossed for Glenn Murray to volley in the only goal from six yards.

"We're getting closer, the idea is to finish it, if we can, the sooner the better, because we're getting to a point where everybody's getting excited about it, the difference with the rest is getting bigger, so we keep going. I cannot ask for more," Poyet said.

"I thought March would be the key month for us to make it or maybe to fail and we won the eight games in March, so I cannot ask for more.''

The league leaders were never at their best against determined opposition and Poyet was happy with his side for adapting their passing game after the break.

He said: "It was the worst we've played for a while. One thing I'm happy about is we tried to play. On this pitch you cannot play, but we tried. We tried for 40 minutes, we tried to pass it, but we made so many mistakes trying to play one and two touch football.

"In the end we had to change it, but you don't have to play 46 games at Dagenham & Redbridge with all respect to them. If you have a decent pitch you can play football, of course you need to adapt to the situations, we didn't really play well, but somehow we got the result.''

Dagenham manager John Still has seen his side climb out of the relegation zone in recent weeks and was again proud of their efforts.

He said: "I think it was one of those games where you say the best team didn't win. I thought we were the best team, they scored a good goal from probably their only chance, where we had three or four.

"All our boys thought we had scored a goal in the first half, it went in and came out, but it's down to the linesman, he hasn't given it, but our performance was first class. We've said to the players before, we're playing very well at the moment. Our form is good, we've played the team that's top of the league and I think we were the better side."
