Liverpool have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Lyon defender Aly Cissokho.

The France international has also been linked with moves to AC Milan and Newcastle and looks increasingly likely to leave the Stade de Gerland in the summer amid reported interest in his signature.

Tribalfootball.com claims that Liverpool remains a 'likely destination' for the 23-year-old after his representative based in Italy revealed there has been strong interest in his client from England.

"I don't know which English clubs are involved as I'm his agent for Italy," Fabrizio Ferrari told tribalfootball.com. "But his agent told me several English clubs are interested."

Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli is said to have become impressed by Cissokho while he occupied the same role with Saint-Etienne and has earmarked him as a potential recruit.

The Reds are understood to have identified the acquisition of a new left-back as a transfer window priority and Cissokho is just one of several Liverpool targets.

Celtic's Emilio Izaguirre and Newcastle defender Jose Enrique have both frequently been linked with a move to Anfield, while Norway international John Arne Riise has been tipped to make a surprise return to Liverpool.
