Jamie McAllister, Cole Skuse and Jon Stead could return from long absences to play some part when Bristol City resume their Championship campaign at home to Doncaster.
Full-back McAllister (broken rib) has been out for six weeks while midfielder Skuse and striker Stead have each been on the sidelines for 10 weeks with respective toe and ankle problems.
The trio came through a behind-closed-doors game unscathed on Wednesday and could be added to manager Keith Millen`s depleted squad.
During the international break, Millen received the news that on-loan centre-half Steven Caulker (knee) will join fellow defender Liam Fontaine (ankle) in missing the rest of the season, while captain Louis Carey is still recovering from a skull fracture.
Christian Ribeiro is also on the sidelines and Millen received further bad news this week when midfielder Kalifa Cisse pulled out of training with a thigh problem.
With so many defenders out injured, Millen has few options available. One solution would be to move Lewin Nyatanga from left-back to partner Damion Stewart in the centre of the back four. Alternatively, he could turn to Jordan Spence, who has extended his loan from West Ham until the end of the season, as a centre-back and call up Joe Edwards to cover at right-back.
Doncaster defender Wayne Thomas will return to contention.
Centre-half Thomas, who has missed the last two games due to a knee injury, returned to full training this week.
But midfielder Martin Woods has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to resolve a groin injury.
Woods has made only 15 appearances this season and has been sidelined since the 3-0 home defeat to Reading in January.
Defender George Friend is struggling with a double hernia but is playing on while being closely monitored and striker Steve Brooker is available after recovering from the calf injury that has sidelined him since early February.
Leading scorer Billy Sharp (groin) along with defenders Joe Mills (foot), James Chambers (hamstring), James O'Connor (foot) and Mustapha Dumbuya (knee) remain sidelined.
