Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.

According to Italian newspaper Leggo, the Barclays Premier League leaders are 'intensifying' their interest in the Italy international as Juve stall over the offer of a new contract.

Marchisio's representatives have allegedly been trying to commence talks with the Turin club for over a year and United are now ready to pounce for the 25-year-old.

Click Manchester reports that Marchisio is valued at around £15 million and Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to bring him to Old Trafford in order to bolster his midfield.

With Owen Hargreaves seemingly set to leave Old Trafford in the summer, the United boss is known to be keen to bring in central midfield reinforcements - and a deal for Marchisio could be just the tonic for the Red Devils.
