Liverpool winger target attempts to engineer exit - reports

Reported Liverpool target Ibrahim Afellay is considering his future with Barcelona, it has been claimed.

The 25-year-old moved to the Nou Camp from PSV Eindhoven in January, but has struggled to force his way into Pep Guardiola's side - making only nine appearances in the league since joining the Catalan club.

According to talkSPORT, the winger will meet Barca chiefs in the coming weeks to discuss a potential move, with Liverpool waiting in the wings.

Metro initially reported that Liverpool were plotting a £9 million move for the out-of-favour Dutchman when the transfer window reopens, having previously attempted to bring him to Anfield in January.

Although he is failing to make an impression in Barcelona, Afellay is an exciting talent who would certainly provide Liverpool with the added pace and width they are said to crave.

A winner of the prestigious Voetballer van het Jaar in 2007, the Holland international is expected to be highly-sought after - should he become available - and a move to Liverpool would represent quite a coup for the Anfield club.
