Chelsea are poised to make a move for Uruguay's teenage sensation Juan Cruz Mascia, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 17-year-old starlet, dubbed the 'new Diego Forlan', sits top of the goalscoring charts in the South American Under-17 Championships, and his impressive form has prompted Carlo Ancelotti to step up his interest in the lofty frontman.

The move comes following Roman Abramovich's demands to freshen up an ageing Chelsea squad, with an injection of exciting young talent very much the order of the day.

Chelsea loathe to miss out to one of their rivals, and amid reports that a number of Premier League, Serie A and La Liga clubs are tracking the progress of the highly-rated striker, the Blues look set to jump the queue and make a firm offer for Mascia, who is available from his club, Miramar, for a modest £1million.

The January acquisition of Fernando Torres, who moved to Stamford Bridge for a club record £50million has so far proved unsuccessful as the Spanish striker looks to acclimatise to life at Chelsea.

Blues fans would openly welcome another exciting prospect to wax lyrical about, and Mascia could prove to be the man.

Having been invited for Chelsea trials, Juan Cruz will hold talks in West London over the possibility of a summer move to the reigning Barclays Premier League champions after previously expressing his desire to move to England.
