Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic believes Chris Smalling will be the next big star at Old Trafford, despite the youngster looking likely to be on the bench in the Champions League quarter final.
"Chris has done very well," the Manchester United skipper told the United Review.
"He didn't have any trouble stepping into the team and he showed everybody how good a player he is.
"It has been a great season for him and he has a big future in front of him.”
The youngster has made 13 appearances for Manchester United this season, and Vidic believes this is quite a feat for a player who is still relatively young.
"He is only 21, so it is a massive achievement for him to have played so many games at his age for this club,” Vidic said.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly focusing on blooding new youth at Manchester United, with the manager hoping to leave a legacy of young fresh players when he retires.
And with stalwart Vidic lauding Smalling’s progress, a team bond between young and older players looks sure to make the English giants even stronger.
