Brighton secure promotion

Brighton secured promotion from npower League One after a thrilling 4-3 home win over relegation-threatened Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Seagulls twice had to come from behind after they first conceded with just a minute on the clock when John Akinde netted.

Inigo Calderon and Glenn Murray looked as though they had restored normal service with goals before the break, but the Daggers went back ahead through Jon Nurse and a Danny Green penalty. The Seagulls then rallied impressively with late goals from Liam Bridcutt and Ashley Barnes.

It moved them 16 points clear of second-placed Southampton who were stunned by in-form Rochdale 2-0 at Spotland.

Joe Thompson and Chris O'Grady scored in the first half for the home side, who were promoted last season, and who surged into the play-off places for the first time this season.

Walsall dragged themselves out of the drop zone with a 3-2 home win over Brentford.

Jonathan Macken's brace cancelled out Pim Balkestein's opener for the visitors. Lewis Grabban equalised but Jordan Cook won it on 57 minutes for Walsall.

A Dean Bowdich double gave Yeovil a 2-1 win over struggling Notts County, who replied through John Spicer.

Leyton Orient's play-off hopes were hit by a goalless home draw with Carlisle.
