Lionel Messi broke Barcelona's all-time scoring record in one season last night as his winner against Shakhtar Donetsk took him to 48 goals for the season.
The Ballon d'Or winner has eclipsed the 47 goals scorer by Ronaldo in his only season for the Catalan club with 48 goals in 46 matches this season.
With the club still having seven La Liga fixtures remaining, the Copa De Rey final as well as the Champions league semi-final coming up, Messi will have ample opportunity to extend the record.
The Argentine needs just one more goal to equal the all-time Spanish record of Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskas.
In addition, Messi is in line to beat Ruud Van Nistelrooy's record for the most goals in a single season of the Champions League.
The Dutchman's current record stands at 12, a feat he achieved during his days with Manchester United.
Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique said: "He is a great player, we all know that.
"He won the most recent Ballon d'Or and he deserved it. It's very important for us to have Lionel in our team and I hope he will be in our team for a few more years as well."
