Newcastle legend and football commentator Alan Shearer has told the Press Association that he has finally made peace with controversial midfielder Joey Barton.
"We have had a pint since and everything was fine,” Shearer said.
“Joey let me down, let the club down and let himself down, there's no getting away from that and I would tell him the same again.
“But that's the end of it.”
Barton and Shearer had a bust up as Newcastle were facing relegation in 2009, when Barton was sent off for a rough tackle on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and subsequently banned for three matches.
While at the time it was reported that Barton had played his last game for Newcastle, the bad boy returned and has now settled and become a leader for the squad. Just last week, Barton was handed the captaincy by current Newcastle manager Alan Pardew for a two week period to prove himself.
This would appear the perfect time for Shearer to give Barton another chance, as Barton considers his future at the Toon.
