Manchester United should sign Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, at least that's the opinion of former Tottenham manager Christian Gross.
Neuer - the Germany no.1 - has frequently been linked with a summer move to the Barclays Premier League leaders in recent weeks as they search for a successor to Edwin van der Sar.
The Dutchman will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season and the race to find a replacement is on - and Gross believes Neuer will be the ideal replacement for the 40-year-old.
"He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. He will be a fantastic choice for Manchester United," Gross told talkSPORT.
"He’s already got a lot of experience, he’s a good footballer, he’s brave, he’s good on the ball. He’s a really excellent goalkeeper.”
United are likely to get the chance to run the rule over the 25-year-old first hand should Schalke get through their Champions League quarter-final second leg unscathed against Inter Milan tonight.
The Bundesliga side have been one of the surprise packages in Europe this season, but Gross - who was coach of Stuttgart last season - has warned United not to take them lightly.
He said: "There's a lot more motivation in the squad since they changed the coach. Manchester United have to be ready and careful."
Meanwhile, United appeared to have identified Atletcio Madrid shot-stopper David De Gea as their first choice to take over from Van der Sar and reports have claimed that the two clubs are close to agreeing a deal.
The 20-year-old Spaniard is said to have a buyout clause in his contract of around £20 million while, according to the Daily Mail, Neuer is valued at £22 million.
