Valencia midfielder Juan Mata has quashed rumours he will leave La Liga this summer reports talkSPORT.

The 22-year-old Spanish international midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League.

The news will be a blow to potential suitors Liverpool and Manchester City who were both poised to make an offer for the exciting wing wizard when the transfer window reopens in June.

"I'm very calm because I know nothing, it is all just rumours. At the moment, and as we approach the summer, we will have even more of these rumours," said Mata, speaking to a Spanish radio station.

"The English league is very competitive and there are several teams that are doing very well but I like the Spanish league," he told Onda Cero.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has been linked with a string of players as the Reds look to strengthen their wide midfield options.

England international's Ashley Young and Matt Jarvis have both been linked with moves to Anfield in the English press, and Mata is another name that can be added to Liverpool's alleged wish list.

After spending big in the January window, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group look set to back Dalglish in the transfer market again this summer as they look to continue the rebuilding process on Merseyside.
