Steve Defour is subject to interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United, who are fighting it out for the midfielder, report talkSPORT.
The 23-year-old was sent a get well letter from Sir Alex Ferguson when he broke his foot in 2009, seemingly grooming Defour for a move to Old Trafford.
But United rivals Liverpool are also keen to sign the player, who has made quiet a name for himself with Standard Liege.
Reports in Belgium have suggested that interest from the Premier League duo, and Dutch giants Ajax, has led to Liege deciding to cash in on Defour this summer, and further reports suggest that both Liverpool and United have bid £9 million for the players
The news of Liege's wiliness to sell will come as a welcome boost to the north-west duo who have been interested in the Belgium international for some months.
United have been following Defour for over two years and were rumoured to be signing him before he broke his foot.
Liverpool meanwhile are keen to re-build their squad after a disastrous 12 months in the Barclays Premier League where they are set to fail to qualify for the Champions League for the second season in a row.
