Alan Pardew believes that this Manchester United squad are as good as any past title winning sides, but the Newcastle manager says the Toon’s home ground advantage should get them over the line tonight.
“It’s an important game for Manchester United, especially after the weekend, and I think Sir Alex will be approaching this with the respect it deserves, and we’ll get their best team,” Pardew said.
“But the motivation of Manchester United is always the same and they’re expected to win, and they’ll be coming to St James’ to win.
“They’re going to find a tough game.”
With returns of some of Newcastle’s biggest stars, including Stephen Ireland, Cheik Tiote and possibly Shola Ameobi, Pardew believes Newcastle will be at it’s best quality for weeks as the side face up to Manchester United.
“I think we’re better prepared than we were for Villa, because we’ve got a couple of players coming back, we’ll have 50,000 Geordies ready to rumble, and it’ll be a great game, I’m sure,” Pardew said.
The Newcastle manager believes that despite Manchester United squads being more ‘star-worthy’ before this season, the current squad deserves praise all the same.
“I think over the years you could argue that they’ve had better teams, but this team doesn’t seem to be listening to that, and the stats are suggesting that this is as good as any that they’ve had.
“They’ve got a fantastic opportunity to get to the Champions League final, and they’re probably going to win the Premier League, so Sir Alex will be fairly pleased with that, I think I would be!
“But anyway, for Newcastle it’s a tough ask, but we’ve got a stronger team out than we did with Villa, and I think we’ll play well.”
