Manchester United will have to look a little harder to replace retiring goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar, after Gigi Buffon’s club Juventus ruled out a possible deal.
“We are not a club that has to sell and thus weaken our technical patrimony,” Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.
“Gigi is recognised as the best goalkeeper of the last 10 years. It's evident that we can't easily deprive ourselves of that patrimony.
“There has never been a desire to sell Buffon.”
Juventus was recently bought out by an American consortium, and Manchester United were believed to have thought they might snag Buffon for the right price.
Edwin Van der Sar has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Barclays Premier League to date, and Manchester United have continually asked the star to stay.
But the 40 year old appears intent on leaving football for a change in career and to concentrate on his family, and Manchester united were reportedly interested in Buffon after his fantastic performances for Juventus.
