Owen hoping for United legend status

With Manchester United chasing silverware both domestically and in Europe, there will be opportunities for certain players to write their names into Old Trafford folklore before the season's end.

Not many people would bet against Wayne Rooney or Ryan Giggs further weaving themselves into United's illustrious tapestry by scoring the goal that secures a Champions League triumph, or seals an historic 19th league title.

But Michael Owen remains hopeful it will be him who nets that vital goal - and the 31-year-old is already dreaming about the potential moment of glory.

Owen posted on Twitter: "As I've already said, don't know where, don't know when, but there is an important goal to come from me this season - mark my words!"

The former Liverpool striker's appearance against Fulham earlier this month was his first for almost three months, while he was also given the opportunity to impress at St James' Park last night.

And, although Owen has been unable to mark his return with a goal just yet, he remains as hungry as ever to increase his tally.

"Disappointing result but credit to Newcastle, they played well and put us under plenty of pressure especially in the first half an hour," he added.

"From a personal point of view it was nice to get on. Got a poor reception off the home fans which was disappointing. Was desperate to score!"
