Hartlepool first-team coach Mick Wadsworth could make changes for the home clash with Tranmere.

Wadsworth has hinted at giving his fringe players a chance in recent weeks, and with neither promotion or relegation on the cards, the Rovers clash could provide the perfect opportunity.

Back-up goalkeeper Andy Rafferty will be hoping for a chance between the posts, while young defender Paul Johnson could be handed his debut after being an unused substitute against Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Utility-man Leon McSweeney could also be recalled to the starting line-up, along with Ritchie Humphreys.

Attacking options include Colin Larkin, Denis Behan or handing Michael Mackay his first start for the club since March 2009.

Right-back Neil Austin and striker James Brown both played an hour for the reserves in midweek on their comebacks from calf and ankle injuries respectively, but are unlikely to be involved.

Tranmere boss Les Parry will assess the fitness of several players ahead of the trip.

Deputy goalkeeper Joe Collister sustained a thigh injury during a reserve match against Shrewsbury on Wednesday.

He was forced off and may now miss the trip to Victoria Park as Rovers bid to bounce back from Tuesday`s 1-0 defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Notts County.

Midfielder Andy Robinson has been nursing a groin injury and rookie striker Dale Jennings has been troubled by an ankle strain.

However, both players came off the bench in midweek and also featured for the reserves the following day as they bid to return to full fitness.

Parry will also check on the fitness of veteran defender Ian Goodison and striker Enoch Showunmi.
