Chesterfield have been promoted to npower League One without kicking a ball after Torquay and Wycombe played out a goalless draw.

The Gulls came closest to winning the contest at Plainmoor, striking the woodwork twice, but it finished in a stalemate, meaning League Two leaders Chesterfield go straight up.

Second-placed Bury look good to join the Spireites in the higher division after they defeated Lincoln 1-0 at Gigg Lane to move eight points clear of the play-off positions, Tom Lees' powerful header sealing the triumph in the 56th minute.

Wycombe stay third, but fourth-placed Shrewsbury, two points behind, will leapfrog them into the automatic promotion spot if they win their game in hand at Hereford on Saturday.

Torquay stay fifth and are now a point in front of sixth-placed Stevenage, who were beaten 1-0 by Southend at Roots Hall after going down to 10 men.

Peter Winn was shown a straight red card in the first half after raising his studs to Sean Clohessy. Barry Corr then nodded home to wrap up the three points nine minutes from time.

In the day's other 3pm kick-off, Clayton Donaldson scored at the death to earn Crewe a 2-1 home win against Morecambe.
