Liverpool and Manchester United are being linked with a summer swoop for Portuguese defender Rolando.
The 25-year-old centre back has been earning rave reviews for his performances with the Portuguese Liga champions, leading to speculation of a move across Europe.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be in the market for a player in the position, with the Scot hoping to find a competitve back-up in the position with injuries and age having an impact at Old Trafford.
Kenny Dalglish is also thought to be keen on signing a player in the position, with the Liverpool boss recently hinting at a number of squad changes at Anfield this summer.
A winger, striker and central midfielder are also thought to be on the Reds' agenda come the end of the season, with director of football Damien Comolli working alongside Dalglish to highlight a number of transfer targets at Liverpool.
Peppino Tirri, Rolando's agent, has confirmed that Liverpool are one of the clubs monitoring the former Belenenses player's progress. Serie 'A' sides are also thought to be interested, along with United.
“Manchester United and Liverpool are following the player. I think something could move towards the end of the month but, for now, the clubs are both focused on the league and the Champions League,” said Tirri.
“There were observers to follow him from many clubs including Inter Milan, Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool. The player’s rating is very high. €15million? Even a little more.”
With ten international caps to his name since making a Portugal debut back in 2009, Rolando has experience at the highest level for both club and country.
Philippe Mexes, Gary Cahill and Micah Richards have also been linked with a Liverpool move in recent weeks, and owners Fenway Sports Group will be called upon to finance any moves in the transfer market.
