Joe Cole has been told he is free to leave Liverpool in the summer, it has been claimed.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has failed to make a lasting impression on Merseyside since joining the club last summer having been released by Chelsea.
Now, according to The Sun, Cole is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after Kenny Dalglish decided he no longer has a future at Anfield.
Despite scoring against Birmingham on Saturday after coming on as a substitute, it appears Cole will be playing his football elsewhere next season with further Liverpool acquisitions set to push him down the pecking order.
"It's tough on Joe because he is a great kid. But things just haven't worked out for him,” a Liverpool insider reportedly told The Sun.
"Kenny is building a new Liverpool with the likes of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez and he wants to bring in more new players in the summer.
"And, unfortunately, that means Joe will be surplus to requirements."
Tottenham and West Ham are said to be leading the chase for the England international.
