Liverpool are being linked with a summer move for Rennes skipper Kader Mangane.
The Senegalese international has been attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe after impressing in Ligue 1, with Liverpool and Aston Villa thought to be leading the chase from the Barlcays Premier League.
Reports in the Daily Mirror claim both clubs are tracking the player, with Birmingham local paper the Express and Star also reporting that Gerard Houllier has made the player a prime transfer target at Villa Park.
Damien Comolli, director of football strategy at Anfield, has made several visits to the Route de Lorient to check on winger Sylvain Marveaux, but the Liverpool chief has also been 'keeping tabs' on Mangane, according to the Mirror.
The British paper claims Les Rouges et Noirs value the player at £3 million, a fee which Liverpool could easily meet should they wish to try and sign Mangane.
A versatile midfielder who can also play in defence, the former Young Boys and Lens star joined Rennes in 2008.
With just over 12 months left on his contract, either Liverpool or Villa could look to bring the player to England for the discounted fee this summer.
