United legend labels £22m target signing "best in the world"

Treble winning Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes Manuel Neuer would be the perfect addition to the club, with the legend saying that Neuer’s younger age and mature style of play set him apart from the rest.

"He is probably the best goalkeeper in the world,” the ex Manchester United goalkeeper told Sky Sports News.

"He is 25 years of age. He's been captain for [Schalke] for a number of years. He is very mature in the way he plays.

"He doesn't make mistakes - I haven't seen him make a single mistake - and the way he played yesterday [against Manchester United], he wasn't lucky in the way that he saved the shots and one-on-ones, it was very calculated.

"I just thought his overall game was fantastic and absolutely well-suited for Manchester United.”

With Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar planning to retire at the end of the season, Neuer looks to be the perfect replacement for the Dutchman. The Daily Mail have valued the star at £22 million, and although Bayern Munich have said they are interested in Neuer, Manchester United appear to have the budget to satisfy the price Schalke will put over the star goalkeeper’s head.
